I've been wanting to start street photography for years and today I finally did! In the past I have always been too self conscious with the DSLR, so thanks to an article posted last week on google +, I took the plunge and got myself a compact camera to use instead and I LOVE IT . . . .
People still look at me taking photos but it looks like a toy so they aren't as pissed off with my presence, now I just look like a tourist, so happy to finally start!
Ironically I found this fella at the grower's market and he wouldn't keep still, after stuffing around with a few shots I gave up and left. 20 minutes later, I find him tied up outside Woolworths . . . . biggest stroke of luck ever . . . and while he was still excited and wanted lots of pats, he eventually calmed and just laid down and looked at me. Whilst the B&W processing doesn't show it, he was light brown with the most iridescent pale blues eyes, he looked awesome.
As I'm no longer employed with an income that allows me to continue my obsessive hobby, I used some moneyz that I made with my photography around town and in Sydney. I'm valuing gear truly for the first time since I've left work and am really appreciative of it, unlike before.
I was a bit floored by the 4:3 aspect ratio, didn't even notice that when I was reading up on the specs, but as much as it originally irked me I'm getting used to it and quite like the fact that there is a bit of extra information in the frame!
